Despite our best efforts, sometimes pets get sick!
Medical Consultations
A medical consultation is scheduled when an owner has a specific health concern about their pet. Common examples include changes in attitude or behavior, gastrointestinal upset, urinary problems, changes in appetite, breathing concerns, skin and ear infections, dental concerns (often first recognized as bad breath), injuries, infections, and recent changes in weight or body condition. Illness can happen due to a variety of causes. Some of the most common reasons for a problem visit include allergies or skin problems, ear infections, dental problems (often first noticed as bad breath by the owner!), injuries, infections, or recent changes in behavior or body condition.
These examinations are different from wellness exams. During this time, our team really focuses on the recent changes and problems that the pet is experiencing. Based on the exam findings, we will frequently offer additional testing. This can include blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, or additional laboratory work. Often this can be done the day of the exam in the hospital, to obtain immediate answers.
Based on all the information obtained, our experienced team will thoroughly go over the findings and treatment options available, coming up with an appropriate treatment plan that works for both the patient and his or her owners.
